Dr. Waguespack performs ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion), also known as Cervical Spine Fusion to remove one or more herniated discs and relieve spinal cord or nerve pressure and alleviate associated pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling in the arms, shoulders, and shoulder blades.
Fusion surgery is performed at the same time as the discectomy in order to stabilize the cervical vertebrae and prevent collapse of vertebrae and a recurrence of a pinched nerve or arm pain.
While Dr. Waguespack uses Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (or ACDF) to treat a symptomatic herniated disc in the cervical spine, she may also use this procedure to treat degenerative disc disease in the cervical spine (neck pain) or myelopathy (compression of the spinal cord) or stenosis (pinched nerve).
